After we were approached by a customer to provide swing accessories for a beautiful cedar tree, we came up with these attachments as a means of ensuring that neither the tree branches nor the ropes were damaged.
A Kenyon is a single rope, 3m long, which has been spliced to create a loop at each end. A openable shackle (carbine hook) is placed through one of the loops, and the other end is then thrown over the branch and wrapped around it at least three times. The second loop then drops down for attachment to the shackle. The swing accessory itself is attached by threading its galvanised ring onto the shackle. The ends of the Kenyon unwrap when the swing is in use, but the main body of the Kenyon remains fixed and stable around the branch, preventing the usual wearing through the rope and damage to the tree that conventional fixing allows. Two Kenyons are required for each accessory with two ropes, and one for a single suspension point accessory.
The Kenyon allows attachment to a branch approximately 2.5m (8ft) from the ground and with a maximum diameter of 25cm (10 inches). If your intended branch is higher or thicker than this, please contact us and we can provide a bespoke length Kenyon to meet your needs. To date, the highest branch has been 10 metres (33ft), anyone care to beat it?!
